On 17 December 2024, H.E. Dr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to Germany, delivered Thailand’s Inaugural Intervention as full member at the Equal Rights Coalition (ERC) Conference 2024. Representing Thailand’s Foreign Minister at the Conference, he emphasized Thailand's strong commitment to advancing LGBTQI+ rights and discussed the nation’s progressive journey towards achieving greater equality for all.

During Thailand's historic participation as the Equal Rights Coalition's (ERC) first member country from Asia, Ambassador Nadhavathna emphasized the Thai Government’s robust endeavour to promote and protect the rights of LGBTQI+ persons including through working with stakeholders at the national and international level. He highlighted the Equal Marriage Act, set to come into effect on January 22, 2025, positions Thailand as the first country in Southeast Asia to officially recognize same-sex marriage.

Ambassador Nadhavathna underscored progress in the wider framework of Thailand’s efforts to combat violence, discrimination, and stigma against LGBTQI+ individuals. This commitment is evident in the country’s 5th National Human Rights Plan and the Gender Equality Promotion Action Plan (2023–2027). While there has been progress, challenges persist. Ambassador Nadhavathna emphasized the importance of sharing and learning from good practices, and promoting understanding to maintain momentum.

As incoming member of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) from 2025 to 2027, Ambassador Nadhavathna reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to promoting LGBTQI+ rights globally, working with HRC members, and advancing Sustainable Development Goals, particularly on gender equality.
